Using a gas generator to keep your off-grid battery bank charged up and healthy is SUPER common.

Most people who are building a completely off-grid solar system will keep some type of gas or diesel generator as back-up in case they get multiple days without sun.

The type and size of generator's required for MPP inverters can be found below:

  • 1 x MPP LVX 6048 - It needs to be 240V generator.  However, the charging amps is adjustable, so anywhere from 1000W to 6kw + generator will be fine.  As long as utility charging amps starts small.
  • 1 x MPP LV 6548 - A 120V generator is no problem.  From 1000w to 6kw+ will be fine.
  • 2 x MPP LV 6548 - This is a split phase system, you will need a 240V generator as well.  The charging amps is adjustable, so anywhere from 1000W to 6kw + generator will be fine.  As long as utility charging amps starts small.
